Alcove Units - Cupboards and Shelves

Thoroughly enjoyed making these alcove units for a customer in Southsea. The were made in a ‘period’ style in keeping with the original features of the house. There was five floating shelves for book storage with a cupboard underneath, as well as a full height wardrobe with hanging rail and a top box. The doors were made from hardwood, and everything was spray finished with a high performance, water based acrylic paint.

Driveway Gates

It all begins with an idea.

After having their gates knocked off the wall in a car accident, we were commissioned by a neighbour to make a set of replacement driveway gates.

The brick pier had been damaged in the crash so that needed to be rebuilt initially, and was moved slightly to allow for a wider opening. The gates were then designed and made by us in the workshop out of Albezia, a wood suited to this application due to its stability (lack of movement). They were made using traditional joinery techniques and installed with some hand forged ironmongery which looked great. I was really pleased with the end result and with the fact they are for a neighbour, I get to see the work everyday which is a novelty.

East Dulwich Bin and Bike Sheds

It all begins with an idea.

Thoroughly enjoyed being given the opportunity to take on the build of this bin and bike shed project in East Dulwich. It was designed by Tom@pearce-plus.com.

The project was designed in a way that it could be made in panel form in the workshop and then taken to site to be assembled. After spending a couple of weeks milling all the wood to the required sizes, the next step was assembly. This phase took slightly longer than I had hoped (including a 10 day setback with COVID) but eventually got it all together and ready for delivery. A huge Thanks to my Dad who was a great help in getting it over the line, as well as some pretty heavy lifting!

The delivery and Assembly on site was done in three days and I was delighted with the end results.

Many Thanks go to Duncan and Carol, Tori, Ollie DH, Sam and James @ Artisan Carpenters (for letting me take over the workshop), and of course to Tom – the mastermind behind the whole project. Check out and enjoy some of the photos
